12 Day 'Ferry Route' Tour
The "Ferry Route" was the aerial route used to bring newly arrived military aircraft from factories and erection depots in Brisbane and Melbourne to the Northern Advanced Operational Bases.
Situated along a key area of the strategic roads network, this area has a rich wartime history. Travel part of the way on the "Spirit of the Outback", a rail journey from Rockhampton to Longreach. A far cry from the old "Red Rattler" Troop trains.
You'll see a restored underground hospital, the wreck of B24D Liberator Bomber "Beautiful Betsy", wartime airfields, museums and much more during your journey through Queensland's Outback. Areas visited include Rockhampton, Gladstone, Biloela, Longreach, Cloncurry, Mount Isa, Hughenden, Charters Towers and Townsville.
This tour is fully accommodated.
