Itinerary
DAY 1 FRIDAY (LD) - Cairns, Undara, Georgetown
Early departure from Cairns as we travel over the Tropical Tablelands, past the Wind Turbines at Ravenshoe to Undara. After lunch enjoy a guided tour with a Savannah Guide through these 190,000 year old Lava Tubes. Overnight: Latara Resort: Georgetown.
DAY 2 SATURDAY (BLD) - Croydon, Karumba
An early start to the day and we arrive at Croydon for a visit to the Information Centre. Lunch at Normanton, then off to the Barramundi Discovery Centre, for a chance to hand feed a "Barra" We join Sunset Cruise at Karumba. Overnight Karumba.
DAY 3 SUNDAY (BLD) - Camp 119, Burketown, Adel’s Grove.
Departing Karumba we travel through Normanton to Burke and Wills Northernmost Campsite, then on to Leichhardt Falls and across the "Plains of Promise" to Burketown. After lunch we head for Lawn Hill. Overnight stay at Adel’s Grove:
DAY 4 MONDAY (BLD) - Lawn Hill National Park
This morning we visit Lawn Hill Gorge, with time to explore this Wildlife Haven. Perhaps try canoeing (own cost) or just relax. Overnight Adel’s Grove.
DAY 5 TUESDAY (BLD) - Lawn Hill, Riversleigh Fossil Fields, Normanton
Depart Adel’s Grove for Riversleigh Fossil Fields. Lunch at Gregory River. We head east to meet The Matilda Highway at Burke and Wills Roadhouse for the journey to Normanton. Overnight: Gulflander Motel.
DAY 6 WEDNESDAY (BLD) - Gulflander Train, Cobbold Gorge
All aboard the famous Gulflander for a memorable trip to Blackbull Siding. We visit the Cumberland Chimney and lunch at Lake Belmore, before reaching our overnight destination, picturesque Cobbold Gorge - ensuite facilities.
DAY 7 THURSDAY (BLD) - Cobbold Gorge
A full day of outdoor enjoyment and interest, as we explore this magnificent gorge with its ancient landscape and cruise the secluded waterway guided by a Savannah Guide. Overnight: Cobbold Gorge-ensuite facilities.
DAY 8 FRIDAY (BLD) - Chillagoe
Today we visit Einasleigh and on to Mount Surprise, then past outback cattle stations, the settlements of Bullock Creek, Ootan and Almaden before arriving in Chillagoe.
Overnight: Chillagoe Eco Lodge.
DAY 9 SATURDAY (BL) - Chillagoe Caves, Tyrconnell Mine, Savannahlander Train, Cairns
Relaxing morning, then a tour of one of Chillagoe’s fascinating limestone caves before visiting the Tyrconnell Mine, a restored working gold mine of the late 1800's. Mid afternoon we board the Savannahlander Train at Dimbulah for your journey to Cairns.
