Itinerary
DAY 1 SATURDAY (D) - Cairns, Thursday Island, Seisia.
Early morning transfer to Cairns airport for your flight to Horn Island. A conducted bus tour of Thursday Island is included. Time for sight seeing and shopping (lunch at own cost) Afternoon ferry cruise to mainland. Overnight at Loyalty Beach Campground.
DAY 2 SUNDAY (BLD) - Cape York, Twin Falls.
An unforgettable day of achievement and interest. Stand at the very ‘Tip’ of our continent, where oceans meet and where very few travellers visit. Explore some of the five Aboriginal and Islander Communities before we cross the mighty Jardine River. Through a wilderness of forests and heath to arrive at idyllic Twin Falls. Overnight National Park campground. Basic Facilities.
DAY 3 MONDAY (BLD) - Telegraph Road, Wenlock River.
An exciting day negotiating river crossings and bush tracks while absorbing the unfamiliar landscape of eucalyptus scrub, heathlands, plains and exotic zamia forests. To our overnight Camp on the Wenlock River at Moreton Telegraph Station.
DAY 4 TUESDAY (BLD) - Weipa, Archer River.
Travel south to Batavia Downs Station then west to the Gulf of Carpentaria through huge cattle runs and Aboriginal lands to the bauxite-mining town of Weipa. Time for a Weipa Mine Tour (own cost). A veritable "Oasis in the Wilderness" and providing further contrast to your experience of this last frontier. Across rolling Piccaninny Plains to our overnight stop at the Archer River.
DAY 5 WEDNESDAY (BLD) - Coen, Musgrave, Lakefield National Park.
Historic interludes as we visit the once vibrant gold rush town of Coen, and then Musgrave, the last remaining Telegraph Station in Cape York. Then east towards the Coral Sea to arrive at the massive wildlife haven, Lakefield National Park. Basic facilities.
DAY 6 THURSDAY (BL) - Cooktown.
Past pioneer homesteads with a pause for photos at Old Laura Homestead then via Battle Camp Range to Hopevale where we meet with a Nugal-Warra Elder for a guided tour of a rock art site. Learn about their art, culture, history and bush tucker. On to historic Cooktown as we visit Cook’s landing place. Overnight Cooktown accommodation. Dinner at own cost.
DAY 7 FRIDAY (BL) - Cape Tribulation, Cairns.
A visit to the mysterious Black Mountains before arriving at Bloomfield Falls. We join a guided cultural walk of this special place with a local Kuku Yalangi Aboriginal Guide. We cross the Bloomfield River, through the World Heritage Rainforest. Across the Daintree River, then follow the scenic coast road to Cairns and journeys end.
